Task: Decode Job Responsibilities

Practise decoding job description language into clear, simple day-to-day tasks so you can confidently show you understand the role in interviews.

Introduction

Job descriptions are often written in formal, abstract and company-focused language.

Interviews require the opposite:

  • clear

  • conversational

  • experience-focused explanations

In this task, you’ll break down what each responsibility in the job description actually means, allowing you to gain a deep understanding of the role and what you'll be doing day-to-day.

Task Instructions

A candidate has rewritten some of the job responsibilities from the Project Manager job description (shown below) into their own words.

For each rewritten statement, find and write the original sentence from the job description that it is based on.

The first example has been completed for you.

  1. I’ll be responsible for tracking whether the project is going well and if it will be delivered on time.

Original: Own project success metrics and timelines

  2. I’ll be running several data projects from start to finish.

  3. I’ll need to work closely with different teams to manage and review data.

  4. I’ll take part in team discussions to make workflows more efficient.

  5. I’ll look for ways to make tools better.
