Task: Extract Key Skills

Practice analysing a real job description and extracting the key technical skills, soft skills, work style, and business context needed for technical interviews in English.

Introduction

Before you can start to prepare strong interview answers, you need to clearly understand what the role is actually asking for.

In this task, you’ll practise extracting the most important signals from a real job description so you can prepare focused, relevant interview responses.


Task Instructions

Read the job description provided below for a (hypothetical) Project Manager at Meta.

Then, identify and extract the key skills into the following four categories:

  1. Technical Skills

  2. Soft Skills

  3. Work Style

  4. Business Context

One example in each category has already been completed for you.

Use this, plus the example from Analysing Job Descriptions, to get started.

Project Manager, Meta
Product Data Operations Department

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple data annotation and labeling projects end-to-end

  • Own project success metrics and timelines

  • Directly manage the day to day, workflows, and metrics of a vendor team responsible for data labeling efforts

  • Work cross-functionally to build datasets that support Product and Engineering, while collecting and analyzing results

  • Help establish team goals and work with multiple stakeholders on strategies for executing, measuring progress, and reporting results

  • Engage in discussions to identify problems while measuring and improving the quality of workflows

  • Identify opportunities to improve tooling and implement scalable solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience in a consumer-oriented product environment, consulting, or operations role

  • Experience working independently and a track record of taking initiative

  • Communication, presentation, and project management reporting experience

  • Experience analyzing and solving problems

  • Experience with Excel

  • Experience with SQL is desired but not essential
